Eventually I was achieving results where I kept the detail and colour in the flowers as well as a vivid white background

The main posts were just placed in the holes. The freshly rough sawn had wonderfull markings on them, so not being able to let this opportunity pass the next day I photographed about a hundred of them, both front and back.
