Leaving aside the economic part of it, I think having things like Secret Lair and all these alternate art cards is a great way to showcase less conventional art while keeping the main sets visual language coherent
As a side note, the fact that your opponent will have to spend mana on a combat trick instead of anything else (like casting another creature) should make you more inclined to block
