Ramp Whether it's getting lands out faster, or playing creatures and artifacts that generate mana, you need a way to 'ramp' - that is, to rapidly increase your available mana, beyond playing your one land a turn
I think its pretty obvious that this Omnath falls short of some of its predecessors, but it certainly packs a lot of value into a single, often 4-cost, creature
Combined with awesome new cards like Owlin Spiralmancer, which can copy those X spells and Nev, the Practical Dean which can give creatures with counters trample you can see how this can unfold
